Running with Purpose: deCODE Team Joins Reykjavik Marathon to Make a Difference

On August 23, seventeen employees from deCODE took part in the Reykjavik Marathon, each running in support of various charities through pledge donations.

Together, they raised awareness and funds for organizations that make a difference in the lives of people and animals in Iceland. As part of the pledges, deCODE contributed ISK 40,000 to each of the chosen charities, in addition to the donations collected by the runners themselves.

The deCODE employees collected in total ISK 1,159,996 in donations.

“The Reykjavik Marathon is a unique event and that gives us an opportunity to support worthwhile causes”, says Dr. Magnús Karl Magnússon, scientist at deCode. “I ran to support a memorial fund in the name of my late wife, Elly Katrin Gudmundsdottir, who passed away last year after having been diagnosed with early-on Alzheimer at the age of fifty-one.”

“We are proud of our colleagues for taking on this challenge in the spirit of giving back,” says Dr. Unnur Þorsteinsdóttir, Managing Director at deCODE. “The Reykjavik Marathon once again proved to be not only a celebration of endurance and teamwork but also a powerful way to support meaningful initiatives across Iceland.”
